SONG STORIES ~ SINGING SHOWERS GOLDEN LIGHTS

I will be giving a little history of each of the songs on FAINTHEARTEDNESS over the coming weeks.

SINGING SHOWERS GOLDEN LIGHTS

It must have ben at least five years ago,  I was driving through the city, my brain a little fuzzy after a dose of Codine.   This song came to me quickly, a love song, expunging the ecstasy of the morning after a perfect night with an amazing person.   The title words are like grasping at ways to explain something beyond words I guess.  Desperate metaphors.   In fact the whole song is an attempt to explain this idea.

When I got home I played the chords that had come into my head in the car.   The were much less exciting on guitar than I had hoped (this is often the case with my 'car songs').   At the time I had a keyboard that someone had lent me, possibly Joel Mullholland or Godfrey De Grut.   It was old and hard to work with.   My favorite part of this keyboard was the arpeggiator, a function that spelled out chords as individual notes, arpeggios, either in ascending, descending or random order.   Choosing the random order, and using the most endearing tone I could muster from this antique Roland keyboard, I guessed the chords I had previously played on the guitar, as only a guitarist playing keyboard would do, and out came this magical, almost arbitrarily arranged string of notes.

That day I recorded some simple vocals, hand claps and things.    The song stayed this way for the next few years.
