After a day filled with clouds, humidity and threatening skies, The rain held off, the sun came out and the evening cooled off nicely, as Kick Bricks took to the stage with special guests The Horn Dogs, featuring Zenon and Max Mills on trombone and sax. Boasting a big fat sound, The Dogs made themselves right at home and added some punch to the festive atmoshpere at Ronan Park, on the banks of the North Branch of the Chicago River.
This show was definitely a family affair. In addition to the The Horn Dogs, who are the sons of our drummer J.B., family and friends of the band were on hand, enjoying the night and picnicing on the grass, while the kids ran and played in the wide open spaces.
Opening with a spirited cover of the Neil Young classic Mr.Soul, The band was loose and funky, mixing originals and covers throughout the set, which ended with a raucus take on the Gnarls Barkley tune Crazy.
We love summer in the city!
