Ye And Kim K Prego?!?

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West will definitely be celebrating the new year tonight. They have just announced their first child is on the way. Kanye revelealed the new last night at the Revel concert in Atlantic City. According to sources, Kim is about 12 weeks currently. Congrats to Ye and Kim K!

Kim released a statement saying:

It's true!! Kanye and I are expecting a baby. We feel so blessed and lucky and wish that in addition to both of our families, his mom and my dad could be here to celebrate this special time with us. Looking forward to great new beginnings in 2013 and to starting a family. Happy New Year!!! Xo

More Favourite things- The Cramps!

The Cramps are absolutely one of my favourite goddamned bands of all time. My favourite album? I can't pick just one.

Honestly, I can't do it and here's why. Technology. When I was much younger, I used to get all my music on vinyl or cassette. Those were the 2 main options. Vinyl sounded better, and LOOKED a thousand times better (I really miss the 12 inch album cover)  but portability sucked. So cassettes would be in the walkman, in the greasy boomboox at work (I was a cook for a lotta years, see) and in the car. 

So I'd buy whichever format was cheaper, usually, but  the vinyl for stuff I loved. And I fuckin' loved the Cramps. Still do. If a psycho blend of punk rock and rockabilly sounds like your kinda thing then the Cramps are simply essential. Buy their stuff. All of it. IMMEDIATELY. 

Anyway- back to my favourite Cramps offering. There's two albums I'd call my favourite, only I basically think of them as one record. 

Date with Elvis from 1986 and the 1990 record Stay Sick! I had these copied on a 90 minute cassette, and would jam the tape in and just let it play on repeat basically forever. So after the cover of Charlie Feathers' It's Just That Song, I expect to hear Bop Pills. And when Muleskinner Blues ends, I want to hear How Far Can Too Far Go? 

That's just the way it is for me. Even now that I'm listening to stuff either on a computer, or my phone just as likely, I always play these albums back to back as one complete, fantastic, listening experience. 

Go give it a try- it makes perfect sense to me.

I am proud to announce that one of my songs "Searching" reached the semi finals in the UK Songrwriting Contest.

I entered the original version of this song into the contest earlier in the year. All of my songs have since been remixed / mastered with additional instruments by Jeff Silverman at Palette Music in Nashville.

We've gone through a fair number of guitar players over the past few years. People come, people go, move on, get busy with other bands, or sometimes life just gets in the way.

To start out 2013 we're lucky to be bringing back Jesse James Dale of Buzz Deluxe. ( who are, by the way, starting a really cool new song a week project over on their  bandcamp).

Jesse's got a long history with the Hangovers- he was  kinda our fifth Beatle at the start. He produced the first two Christian D and the Hangovers releases, and done quite a few shows as a Hangover a few years ago. 

Come on out in January, and watch Jesse tear it up on stage again with the Hangovers!

In an effort to talk about something OTHER than my own music, or this band or my dog,  I thought I'd start writing about some of my favourite things. Music that I love, books that I think are cool, whatever. 

Here's the first thing. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds  album Your Funeral...My Trial This came out in 1986 and immediately on the first listen it became one of my favourite records of all time. 

It still is. I've been playing this thing for 26 years, and have yet to get bored. It's starts of sweetly, gently with Sad Waters, followed by Cave classic The Carny. Hard On For Love is as raunchy as you'd expect ending with some classic Cave guttural moaning. 

I think this is the best of the early Bad Seeds albums, although I love them all. This one strikes me as perfect. If there's an album I ever wanted to cover from start to finish, this might be it.

I've owned it on vinyl, blew out three cassetes, have the original on CD and bought the recently remastered version from iTunes. It's a classic, and if you like dark music and don't own this you are completely nuts.

Hey Petty Music Lovers, 

We had a great weekend playing a couple of private events in San Francisco this past weekend and we made a whole bunch of new friends.  You know we are always down for a good party! 

 

 

Now we have a few weeks to chill with our families and friends for the Holidays and we wish you all the very best!

 

That being said… we still have some great shows coming up to finish the year and to begin 2013 with a bang…

49ERS TAILGATE PARTY: We are very pleased to announce that we will be performing in the Grand Plaza entrance at Candlestick Park for the 49ers official tailgate party on Sunday, December 30th!  So, if you are going to the game stop on by and catch us playing some Petty tunes along with the Gold Rush cheerleaders and other fun happenings…We will perform 3 short sets from 11AM till Kick Off! GO NINERS!

 

NYE 2012: For the 2nd year in a row,  we are doing a special New Years Eve show!  This year it's at the Hopmonk Tavern's newest music venue: "The Session Room" in Novato on December 31.  This show will feature two full sets of all the best Tom Petty songs along with party favors, a balloon drop, and a special toast at midnight!  The room capacity is only 200 so this show is expected to sell out SOON.  Get your tickets NOW while they last!

 

CLASSIC ALBUM TRIBUTE NIGHT:  We are finally back at SLIM'S in San Francisco on Saturday, January 5th 2013.  Sharing the bill with us will be Zoo Station (Tribute to U2) performing U2's The Joshua Tree. We will perform Tom Petty's Damn The Torpedoes. That is so amazing.

As a young jazz dancer years ago I would dance to your song and I can honestly say that I would be swept away by the magic of it and lose myself in the melody. It was my favourite song to dance to. I stopped dancing after having my family and this song became lost in memory until I heard it on face book one day. It made my heart beat faster and actually moved me to tears when I listened to it. All those magical memories of dancing to it came flooding back. I had to buy the album straight away and now I play it nearly every day.

Happy Holidays!

I recorded my song "Stand In My Way" when I was on tour in Nashville last year at the world-renowned Ryman Auditorium (also known as the "Mother Church of Country Music").  The Ryman is best known as the most famous past home of the Grand Ole Opry.  Country greats such as Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Tammy Wynette, Patsy Cline, and Hank Williams (+ many more) have all graced Ryman's stage.  I toured the Ryman and even got to stand on their legendary stage, and I was so inspired by the history of the venue, that I not only came home and recorded Hank Williams' song "Baby We're Really In Love" (available on iTunes), but I went back to Nashville and recorded "Stand In My Way," a song I wrote about stopping to smell the roses while my busy touring schedule had me on the road a lot, inside the Ryman (released by Ryman Records)!
