Hello Folks!  Ramblin' Jack was a special guest of Dan Hicks last Friday night at an amazing gathering of old friends - at Davies Symphany Hall in San Francisco.  He joined the likes of Ricki Lee Jones, Ray Benson, John Hammond, Maria Muldaur, Jim Kweskin, Roy Rogers, Tuck & Patti, Bruce Forman and many others - including the Original Hot Licks - for a 70th birthday celebration for Dan.  Big Fun!

This week Ramblin' Jack heads to LA to perform at the Woody Guthrie 100th Birthday Celebration at Club Nokia in The Grammy Museum with Kris Kristofferson and Jackson Browne - among others.  Then he joins the 'Roots on the Rails' trip - while it goes up the coast on 'The Portland Rose.'  Please check the show tab for further information - Mud Tour is coming up in May!

Since the inception of BLACKMASS MAFIA Marshall Amplification has been there every step of the way. Vocalist/Guitarist Mikke Nugent has relied on his Marshall JCM 2000 Dual Super Lead 100 and his Marshall 1960B 4x12 cab to create BLACKMASS MAFIA'S heaviest riffs and scorching leads.

Today everyone that rolls BLACKMASS is saddened by the passing of Marshall Amplification's founder Jim Marshall. At 88 years old Jim Marshall was still the standard bearer for amps from the JMP 1 to the SLP, JCM 800, DSL/TSL series, to today's JVM line. Jim has spent a lifetime redefining the music industry.

To Jim and the whole Marshall family, respect and the humblest of thank you's Jim from everybody in the BLACKMASS FAMILY.

Although much of Kick Bricks' music has been born by being in the moment, every now and then we like to take a little time to reflect on where we have been and where we would like to go. While we are proud and humbled by everything that we have been fortunate to be a part of over the last five years, We are even more excited for what is to come. At this point, every show seems like a bonus to us - we never forget how lucky we are to have this band- and we are ready to roll.

This spring we are writing new songs, and we will be celebrating our five year anniversary with a couple of acoustic sets at Elbo Room on Saturday, June 9 with more to be announced later. We'll have Joe in tow and anticipate a special guest or two- it should be fun! As always we want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for showing up to our shows and making them so much fun- keep spreading the word! Because of you we get to keep doing what we love to do!

Hope South Florida: Responding to the Homeless Crisis

We know homelessness exists. We see it in our communities, we sometimes hear the stories. We pass the homeless at stop lights, we watch them bundle up beneath bridges and overpasses as we drive by. And it pains us, it does. Maybe we say something quietly under our breath, a few words before turning our music up. Maybe we try to rationalize their situation, wonder to ourselves what went wrong and who was to blame. Then, as the day begins to fill itself with our own demands and agendas, we forget. We forget what we saw, the picture of hopelessness that was before us moments earlier. It’s not that we don’t care, because we do. It’s not that we don’t want something differently for the man we saw, hungry, in tattered garb. We do.

The truth is something has gone wrong. We get the feeling things arenot as they should be. Yet the issue remains, this issue of homelessness in our cities. Hope South Florida, a local non-profit, is dedicated to making an impact in the homeless community. They have decided to stop looking away, to stop forgetting what is before us and take steps to create change, to dress the wounds of our neighbors in need. Based out of Fort Lauderdale, Hope South Florida is in the thick of it, providing housing through their emergency shelter The Shepherd’s Way, food, and seeking to restore broken families through authentic relationships.

“It takes resources”, says executive director, Robin Martin, who is keen on partnering with churches and local organizations to serve the homeless in South Florida. With an estimated 3,800 homeless people in Broward County alone, there is much work to be done.

“There are tangible needs to be met and we just want to do our part, ” says Martin, who was recently named Non-profit Leader of the Year.

While the issue of homelessness persists in our community, organizations like Hope South Florida are seeing to it that the crisis not go ignored.
